[2] Details about the "Synchronous Distance Learning" project

Prof. Phatak has successfully implemented a 1,000 teacher synchronous training programme for college teachers around the country. He has used

EDUSAT and A-VIEW, developed by Amrita University, to establish two way audio-video communication. Lectures delivered from IIT Bombay are

received at about 30 remote centres located in different parts of the country. Teachers from neighbouring colleges come to these remote

centres to participate in the course. A clicker system (both hardware and software) has been developed by Prof. Phatak's team to help improve

the interaction and to get a quick feedback on how well the lectures are understood. This is the first time a clicker based instructional

methodology is used in a distributed setting to impart synchronous education. Through this medium, Prof. Phatak has taught a basic course

on C programming twice. He hopes to get good faculty members from different disciplines to teach other basic subjects.

This training programme has been covered in Times of India

This training programme and A-VIEW are funded by the National

Mission on Education through ICT <http://spoken-tutorial.org/NMEICT-Intro>
