The IITM Placement Office facilitates in securing placements for graduating students. The office also organizes career planning counseling in a limited fashion from August to November, and campus interviews from December every year. The Office interacts with over 800 industries in the country, of which nearly 300 companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews.
The Placement Office posts Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. manually through the Placement Office Notice Board. Similar communication is sent to the Notice Boards in each hostel and announced in the placement website for students. But this is all done in manual, fragmented, and in non-integrated fashion. This IITMAA Career Center micro-website – seeks to integrate all that, and bring quality mentoring resources from alumni all around the world to make this a world class Career Management Center – rivalling even MIT’s Careers Office.
A useful first step would be for IITMAA to work with the the IITM Placement Office Committee to develop the IITMAA Career Resource Center. Alumni need to be actively involved to make this happen. ThePlacement Committee comprising representatives of students from the under-graduate and post-graduate engineering streams and the science streams. The committee evolves a broad policy framework every year. Students members are closely co-opted in implementing these policy decisions.
